Aikido Dai Etsu is an Aikido dojo offering children and adult classes in northwest Calgary, AB, Canada.
Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba (often referred to as 'O-Sensei or 'Great Teacher'). On a purely physical level, it is an art involving throws and joint locks that are derived from Jujitsu and Kenjutsu.
Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, bur rather onusing their own every to gain control of them or to throw them away from you. Aikido is a dynamic art that places great emphasis on motion and flow.
Meet Dzung Nguyen, our dedicated Sensei. Originally a Judo practitioner in Vietnam, he discovered Aikido in 1980. Settling in Calgary in 1995, he began his Aikido journey under Yas Inaba Sensei. In just 2.5 years, Dzung Sensei received his Shodan (first-degree black belt). By 2007, he founded Aikido Dai Etsu and has been teaching ever since. Recognized for his expertise, he was promoted to Godan (fifth-degree black belt) in 2021 under Hayato Osawa Shihan (master instructor).
We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of anyone who may have an interest in this martial art. We run both children, teen, and adult classes, and offer a welcoming environment for anyone at any level.
